About Carol Duhaine—Educator at Building Blocks Childcare, LLC

Favorite Part About Being an Educator

For Carol, the most amazing thing is to see or hear a child applying the skills they have learned and see the excitement on their face when they accomplish a difficult task.

Carol's Special Experiences in Childcare Parents Should Know About

Carol has worked with kids since she was 12 years old. She started by watching neighborhood kids. Soon, she also had to take care of her very active sister and their house so their mom could begin working.

Carol is now a mother of 3 awesome adult men whom she raised mostly as a single mom, two with special needs. She took parenting seriously when challenged with special needs children, to find resources for and learn how best to teach them and raise them to embrace their individuality. She has also been a foster mom and did childcare in the 80s and 90s, caring for children from newborn to 12 years of age.

Throughout her life, Carol has always taken classes and workshops teaching all aspects of child development, from the picky eater and potty-training strategies to physical and mental health. She genuinely loves children of all ages and embraces and encourages their uniqueness.

Carol always does everything within her power to give the young ones the strength and confidence to lead independent, fulfilling lives and be the best they can be. She strongly believes that all kids deserve a safe and loving educational environment to learn and grow.

Family Story

Carol Duhaine has celiac disease, and she is very sensitive to gluten. It is of the utmost importance for her and her children with food allergies to avoid exposure to the foods they are allergic to. It is her intent to have a family child care home that does not only have a gluten-free environment but can eventually accommodate kids with other food allergies.

Also, Carol lives with her sweet little pup named Chloe. She is an 11-year-old Dachshund mix who loves children almost as much as Carol does. From the first day Carol’s youngest granddaughter slept at her home, Chloe has kept an eye on her. Chloe’s motto is “Eating and drinking can wait; I have a child to watch over.”

Chloe

Carol enjoys shooting darts and playing pool, playing board and card games, crocheting, sewing, and cooking in her free time. Most of all, she loves spending time with her friends and family, including 5 grandchildren. Living in beautiful CO, Carol loves walking and hanging out in the mountains and having picnics by the streams and rivers.

Other Information Parents Should Know About Carol

Carol was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2010, so she had to revamp her diet and way of living completely. This was when she decided to start a home childcare program where she could provide families with a loving early learning environment for their children. With the center, she was also able to help her community work toward meeting much-needed quality, affordable childcare.

Her program offers educational materials, arts and crafts, and gluten-free food. Carol works with a local nutritionist to ensure she meets the children’s nutritional needs and that the kids she takes care of are safe from allergens. She is also a part of the Federal Food Program.

Carol's Communication with Parents

Carol likes telling parents about funny, positive, and cute things their child says or does, so she always looks out for these events or actions. She loves taking pictures of events that she thinks the parents would like to see.

At times when a problem with a child arises, Carol prefers telling the parents the good and asking if they have seen the issue at home. She then assures parents that they can work on these issues jointly. Together, they, the parents and Carol herself, will work to be the village for the child.

About Our School

Our School Setup

Carol hopes that Building Blocks Childcare, LLC can be your child’s or children’s home away from home. From infant to age 6, we are in a school setting. She wants to provide a more homelike environment in which children feel comfortable. It excites her to encourage and watch kids’ perseverance, imagination, and independence grow as they learn and play and start developing into the people they are meant to be.

The Snacks and Meals We Provide to Children

Building Blocks Childcare, LLC provides gluten-free breakfast, lunch, and 2 snacks daily, mainly using whole foods. We believe in family-style dining, where the children can serve themselves.

We follow Larimer County Health Department and the CDC’s recommendations on cleaning, sanitizing, and more. We also have 2 HEPA air purifiers, a HEPA vacuum, a steam handheld sanitizer, and a steam floor mop. To allow for proper cleaning and change things up for the children, Carol rotates toys and equipment used in our facilities.

Our Expectations From Parents in Our Programs

Open, honest communication and consistency are keys to your child’s success. We are the village working together for your children, so we should work closely to provide the best for “our” children.

Parent Visitations (Including During the COVID-19 Pandemic)

Building Blocks Childcare, LLC welcomes parents to stop by with prior notice. We want to ensure we have plenty of food when you come so you can have lunch with us. Kids love sharing their day with parents in our home away from home. This is as much as they love to go to their parents’ work away from home.
